OUR MISSION
A Broken Umbrella Theatre aspires to enrich the Westville and Greater New Haven community through compelling, intimate storytelling. With equal focus on adult and children’s programming, we seek to bring together people of all generations with works that pique our collective curiosity and demand that we take a second glance at the ordinary.
OUR HISTORY
A Broken Umbrella Theatre is dedicated to the development of new work and the exploration of the classics through ensemble research, direction and implementation. The company was founded by Uninvited Guests Comedy Troupe in 2001 as a way to expand their theatrical endeavors with other artists. Their production of “Waiting for Godot” made its debut in Allentown, PA and toured to a medium security state penitentiary in Dallas, PA. Uninvited Guests performed sketch and improvisational comedy up and down the east coast from 1996–2002 delighting audiences at comedy festivals, universities and corporate events. In May of 2008, the company premiered an original ensemble-created work “Read Big” at the Whitney Arts Center as part of the NEA’s Big Read New Haven. Troupe members can be found across the country creating work under A Broken Umbrella Theatre in Hawaii, Los Angeles, Chicago, New Haven, and New York.
